Day 3
I was awoken by the ringing of the voice call system we have in our room. Every room has one and it's basically used as a wake up call. So for example 'Hello, Mrs. Smith, are you awake? what would you like for breakfast?' Etc etc. Monique jokes that some of the residents greet the person on the phone with 'I'm not dead, I'm still alive!' Which I found quite funny, good banter by the golden oldies. Anyway, as I was saying.. The call for us in the morning was to ask were we coming down for lunch? Jeff answered it as usual, seeing as I was just about opening my eyes. As he answered the call, I shockingly found out that I slept through till 12 o clock, oops.
We went through to the dining room, acknowledging that most of the dining rooms eyes were on us. Jeff had been up since 6 and was more awake and looked more fresh. Me on the other hand, I slipped on my clothes and put my SnapBack hat on backwards, typical teen I presume they were thinking in their head! Today's lunch was beef with roast potatoes and vegetables and also some sort of salad for starters and jelly for desert, followed by a coffee for myself.
The afternoon was taken up by a couple of events. I forced myself into a bath that was quite hot as on previous holidays this had cured me of burn sores. It helped a little bit with some aloe Vera but I think I may go to the pharmacy to get some cooling gel which was recommended by a resident called lesley, she obviously saw I was struggling!
We headed down to mixas, a pub 5 mins from us so we could enjoy the happy hour from 5:00-7:00. I aim to try a different beer or cider everytime we go to the bar, I tried castle and savanna cider today! Not bad. On to 3 now.
We headed back to the apartment to have some wifi time. We came back to a little session of 'singing in the raining', which was being played on the DVD and plasma screen in the dining room! A man called George who we had spoke to on a few occasions.. offered to drop us to a nice restaurant for some food as we were quite hungry! Which was really nice of him, invited accepted! In the end it turned into a good hours drive where we want to the top of table mountain and signal hill to see what Cape Town looked like at night. The view was incredible, the whole of Cape Town was lit up and looked out of this world! Surprisingly it was quite chilly out, especially at the top of the mountain! We got back in our car and went to look for a takeaway somewhere! George is such a helpful guy and we assured him that if he ever wanted to go for a beer or whatever, he could simply just knock on our door and we would go! He was grateful for the company tbh, when we said 'thanks for everything, we really appreciate it' etc he replied 'well, it's better than sitting indoors doing nothing!' Which has given me the nudge to ask him out for a beer and stuff like that in the future. It's great to have someone like George, to show you about and tell you how to get places! It's really helpful and greatly appreciated.
That was our events of the day, meeting the communicare team tomorrow and getting use to bus routes with Joe and Lourens tomorrow!
All the best, Luke
