Day 6

Day 6.
Today was quite a chilled day to be fair. It was focused on visiting all the communicare complexes and just getting a feel for what their complexes are like and to meet some staff and also tenants.

We left the apartment at about 8:15 to get to the office in ruyterwacht for 9:30. The bus took a while to come so therefore we missed our train at Cape Town. There was one at 9:00 and we managed to just miss it literally. We were looking at the board at 8:59, so by the time we got through the gates.. The train had gone! The next train was at 9:30, so we had to wait for half an hour! Despite being anxious to get to ruyterwacht on time, the delay meant we could really get a feel for what Cape Town station is like during peak times.

We hopped on the train at 9:30. Thanks to Lourens and Joe, we have first class monthly train tickets arranged for us. There is a big difference in terms of busy-ness from first class to third class. Our first class section was relatively calm in comparison to third class where it was very packed. A train inspector came on midway through our journey to vasco (the nearest station to Ruyterwacht) and told a few people to get off as they didn't have a valid ticket.. This meant first class became even more empty which was great for jeff and I! Conscious of the time, jeff and I rushed over the bridge and were greeted by Joe!

After a short stop at the learning centre.. It was time to go to the complexes! Throughout the day we visited various different complexes owned by communicare, but I have to say Rosehaven was my favourite. It was a really smart complex where they took pride in their garden facilities, as Joe and Lourens said 'its not called Rosehaven for nothing!' We met a woman nicknamed Rose Queen! She knew sooooo much about roses it was crazy! She was very kind and even said i had such an innocent soft face. She obviously hadn't seen the skin peeling off my face from my previous sun burn episode!! The people at Rosehaven were lovely and all had many hidden talents which took so much skill, also the hospitality was top notch!! They served us Irish stew which was very tasty! Today was a funny ol' day, almost all of the old folk you meet at communicares complexes are so welcoming, happy and glad to see us! We stopped for many photos today, for their grandsons mostly but also for them, which felt very surreal, it was like being a celebrity!! God knows what it'll be like when we have all our arsenal kit on! Joe has already warned us that flyers and posters have been put out to come and meet us at some point next week! I can't wait!

After visiting all the complexes we headed home on the train. Before getting on the bus we wanted to take a little detour to go and purchase a ball for ourselves. We were dying to just go for a kick about seeing as we have a park 2 minutes from us and also that the soreness from my sunburnt had gone!! We hunted round for a sports shop and found one called 'top sports', the equivalent to JJB back in the UK I guess. We hopped on the bus at 'darling' after purchasing our ball and it was now time to head home and get some dinner in our bellies!! Jeff ate his whilst sorting his UCAS application. As soon as he's done.. Time to play ball!!! Boy, have I missed it.

Looking forward to tomorrow's events! Where we will be visiting a football team called Atlantic soccer club, to meet some coaches and players, whilst also being lucky enough to watch their under 13's! We get to wear our kit for the first time tomorrow. Buzzing!

All the best,

Luke
