Day 28.
We had another crèche session today at 9:00 in the learning centres hall. I can't remember the name of the crèche but I'll write it in tomorrow's blog! My apologies. There seems to be a huge market for exercise and soccer sessions in crèches which Lourens is keen for us to explore. Our programme is full of crèche sessions and the kids seem to absolute lovely it! Many nurserys aren't fortunate to have the facilities or teachers that are willing to use soccer a couple times a week to keep their students active! So when crèche principals are contacted there seems to be a really good response! I hope no one takes this idea now. It's my back up career plan! The children today were a really excitable bunch as soon as they walked through the door they said hello and good morning! Screamed rather than said actually. All without our guidance! I high-fived one kid and then a whole swarm of children came running towards me...craziness!! We explored the option of letting the kids crawl through all of the legs of their team after touching the cone and coming back. I can't believe we didn't try it before. The train exercise has a huge competitor now! I'm glad we found another element to make our session even more fun!
We had a big gap before our next session at De Waveren which was scheduled to be at 2:30. So we uploaded more pictures to sky drive ,which took quite a while, ate lunch and filled hundreds of empty packets with sweets. Azille asked us to fill these empty packets with heart shaped sweets which were in celebration of valentines day next week. I believe she is hosting a few valentine programmes at a few complexes such as drommedaris and Ruyterwacht. Jeff and I are gonna have an emotional valentines day! My house in England will be like the scene in harry potter where uncle Vern's house gets flooded with letters. I guarantee. (Cough!) Watch that Clip here http://youtu.be/y7ztg9t7aJo
If the link doesn't work.. Go on YouTube and type it in harry potter letter scene. That is my house EVERY valentines day.
Our afternoon involved doing a session at de Waveren! We didn't have the best of turnouts, about 20! But that was a comfortable number to work with. We used a drill magic square which can be used as a template for your whole session and it doesn't require many cones at all. 8 to be precise! We used it for the warm up, passing and dribbling! So simple but effective. The kids took a while to get into rhythm but we regressed the drill if they didn't understand it or they were struggling! The match at the end was a great laugh and 'my team' won 5-4 in the last seconds due to a handball from the opposition! I obviously shied away from giving any penalty advice after my dismal effort yesterday. It was a wise decision.. the boy slotted it home with ease! That was our last scheduled session at de Waveren but the boys were a pleasure to teach and if there's a chance to go back there.. We definitely will! Mr Williams is the only teacher I've met so far who is passionate to use football regularly within the school so that was good to hear! He was a really nice guy and a pleasure to meet.
A good day to be honest. It was really nice to speak to Joanne and especially nanny June (my grandmother). A surprise skype call to her was a nice way to spend my evening! That's the first time I've spoke to her face to face since I've been out here, however she always reading my blog trough printed copies! I Skyped my dad after too, he's sitting in on his own tonight! My Mum and brother, jake, seem to have a better social life than him!
All the best
Luke
