Day 33.
We had quite an empty today in comparison to previous days we've had!
We had one session today. With a group called Greenlands crèche. We had to travel a short 10 minute drive in Joe cars to a place called Bishop Lavis! Bishop Lavis is a very deprived area and I would say it was more 'deprived' then Ysterplaat where we coached Ysterplaat Educare. However it has to be said the facilities at Greenlands crèche was one of the best we've had. The grass was ridiculously green and was much better than a few we've previously coached at! There was a jungle gym, swings, climbable tyre structures and all sorts, the kids were very lucky that the principal had built such a nice play area! Despite such a luscious green area to do our session on, there was a few dangerous obstacles such as trees and a couple divots but that was no worries we worked around that! The half an hour sessions seemed to go quick because how slow we had to talk and how many times we had to demonstrate. Jeff and I would say something and they would either say yes or just look at us completely vacant! Where as joe would say the exact same thing and would get such a better response! I guess it's our London accent! It was Greenlands first session so we did some fun races and games! As usual the crawling through the legs, big high 5's and trains were the highlights of the session! The train exercise never fails to amuse me. Jeff and I demonstrate it and then let them have a go at it but they all just run full pelt and fall over each other and end up in a big bundle laughing their heads off! So when that happens.. we demonstrate with one of the groups, me at the front and jeff at the back dictating the pace at how fast they should run! Consequently, after showing the kids how to do it...they all do it neatly all shouting choo choo with no problems at all, All trains arriving in one piece back at Cape Town station!
The afternoon involved quite a lot of admin work which was fine! I took charge of sorting and uploading the photos on sky drive and Jeff sorted the tables and fixtures for the communicare action soccer league on Saturdays! The internet speed hinders how long it takes but we were in no rush. I even cheekily managed to put a few photos up on my blog! Hope you guys liked them.
We got home around 5:45 and I jumped straight in a cool bath! It was quite a hot day today, sun blazing!
Tomorrow we have a busy day! We start with Maja Crèche at the learning centres hall where we have come up with a whole new fun games session. A childish dynamic warm up which I think they'll enjoy! Then a primary school game I use to love called duck duck goose, however as we're soccer coaches we've incorporated a ball. Then to finish we have a competition in teams where they, as a team, see how many balls they can knock off the cones! We're gonna set a big triangle out of 10 balls on cones and then let each player have one go at knocking as many balls off the cone as they can! Just like bowling. Then when each player has gone, we count up how many as a team they have got! For example "team 1 managed to get 6/10!" "Team 2 up next, let's see if they can beat that".
Our second afternoon appointment consist of us heading to Gugliehtu where we had 85 kids turn up last time! We've planned for a session dedicated to big numbers with a small amount of cones and balls! Were gonna do shuttle races that incorporate turns such as outside turn, inside turn, dragback and then a cruyff turn (depending on how good they are!). Jeff and I are gonna take half of the warm up each as we both want to be filmed taking 85 kids for a warm up! That would be the best video of the holiday I think! A typical gap year video in Africa! Hopefully we get it! Better delete a couple videos to make sure I've got enough memory! I've already run out, Oopsy! I think the session will really test us in terms of session management and how good we are at explaining however there are 4 coaches tomorrow so we should be able to handle it. Jeff and I are the lead coaches and the other 2 assist us!
Think we're gonna go to mixers tonight to watch some premier league games! Haven't been mixers in ages! At least a week!
All the best
Luke.
