Day 29

Day 29.

We arrived at the learning centre at 9 o'clock to make our way down with Lourens in the car to ysterplaat educare centre. This was the school that had average facilities, a car park to be precise. But you have to make do with what you've got!! It was their second session so that meant it was their turn for target practice and knocking balls off a cone!! We had two groups and they both had reduced 20 minute sessions as ysterplaat were scheduled to have building work done to the centre and therefore the builders needed the car park! We experimented with something new today.. we asked the boys and girls to turn around with their backs to the cone and role the ball through their legs! Even though it sounds a bit silly the kids really love it and it's just another fun element we could add to our session. We made our way to the second session at ysterplaats pre school centre which were my favourite group last week! We arrived at 11:00 and cracked on with our session. The limiting factor with this group is that the facilities we use are surrounded by a road so we made sure that we would collect the ball and not them. We found that with a target practice session it was vital that each kid went one at a time on our command! So for example the first set of kids would kick when we said "3,2,1 GO!".. Then we could collect the ball.. Give it back to them.. And then the second people in each cue would go on our command! We did this to lessen the risk of kids running in the road if we were busy chasing the balls but also to just maintain good management of the session. Again this group didn't fail to amuse me, still my favourite group so far! Later on I was attacked by 30 kids pinching me. They thought it was very funny so I braved the pain and sprayed them with water out of my bottle to get them off! That'll teach them! They all soon ran away after that. This group are definitely the winners in terms of reaching the highest amount of decibels when screaming arsenal too. Crazily loud!

Thankfully Joe and Lourens gave us the the afternoon off! We were free from 12-5. I caught up on some sleep after we had lunch in the dining room at berghof. I was awoken by a call from Danielle asking us if we still wanted to go to attend a family braai.. How could I say no!? The offer was firmly accepted and jeff and I can't wait! Afterwards I had a cool bath and made some dinner for Jeff and I! Tuna and cheese melt in pita bread. Jeff said it was 'delicious'!

We were picked up by Joe on time and headed down to Ruyterwacht to pick up some braai tongs and Jayden, joe's son. Shortly after we collected Yonik and Joey at their church and swiftly made our way to drommedaris for the start of the father son evening. We had four speakers say a little something at the event. Me,Jeff,Alex (a boy who's changed his life around and who is from drommedaris) and then also a navy officer who gave a really inspirational speech! Joey gave a really good speech too as it goes. He's a missionary from California who is staying with Joe! He's another young man who has changed his life around massively and who was involved in gangsterism a lot himself and was even part of the gang vatos locos. Joey's a really nice guy and it's nice to see another person who wants to make a difference in the community. The evening was a real success and there was a decent turn out too. However it has started to rain!! Unbelievable. As jeff humorously said.. "This is not what I signed up for!"

We have to be at Vasco for 10:00 tomorrow, a comfortable time, not too early which is nice. Joe is gonna pick us up and take us down for the second week of the communicare action soccer league!! Jeff and I have a big role in organising the games tomorrow and being referees etc. I'll definitely be dishing out a few cards if there's any backchat! Mwahaha.

All the best or in South African terms.. 'Go well!'

Luke
