We were told to be at the learning centre at 2:30 today, we had some admin work such as updating the communicare league table and helping with some odds and sods.
Our first session was at Ruyterwacht FC where we had not been to before. The pitch was amazing, one of the best surfaces we've coached on in South Africa, if not the best. The chairman asked if we could focus on the younger boys and girls aged from 7-10. One of the boys called Masoodi, asked if could he explain our warm up of chicken or hero which was really nice of him. We had taught him previously at De Waveren so we had done it a couple times with him and i've said in my blogs before.. they really enjoy it! He explained it really well and fair play to him for being brave and explaining it to the whole group.
Our session was based on dribbling so we did chicken or hero, with a ball and also without a ball. Afterwards to transfer those skills, we did a slalom dribbling skill. 9 players were based on a cone and 5 on either side of the pitch. The aim of the game is to run to the other side without getting tagged. However, the catchers must have one foot on the cone at all times. To progress it, we did the same but with dribbling. The only way you could be caught was with a one footed, standing tackle. NO SLIDING! Both the warm up and this took around 40 minutes which left us with 20 minutes for a little tournament. A lovely session, with really well mannered boys and girls who thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I even taught them the Geordie Horn celebration I do when I score for my team in England. It's from a programme I watch in England and looks like this (see below).
We had organised with Danielle earlier this morning to go to dinner with her and her mum at a thai buffet restaurant in Grandwest Casino. Jeff and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and were soo stuffed by the end of it all. After dinner we walked around the casino, checked out the ice rink and went to the arcade too where I won myself 3 bouncy balls. It was a typical arcade where you won tokens for doing well at games etc, my kind of place. Still a child at heart. I remember in Florida winning a whopee cushion back in the day!
Big thanks to Joe and Danielle for making us enjoy another night in cape town. Thanks to Joe and family providing us with Jeans and thank you for Danielle and her mother for taking us out to dinner! I tried to explain the whole jeans and astro concept to Joe about how if in England you wear jeans and astro boots, you get the absolute pee taken out of you but I didn't mind doing it here. It was straight from work and I was in uniform, what could i do? "You never know when you're going to get a call up"
Start at 9:00 tomorrow!
By the way guys i've started to upload a few video's to youtube so my viewers, family and friends can see what i've been up to. The internet at the office is pretty slow but after a while, the video does eventually upload.
